Let's add insult to injury! Mix it in a bowl of unemployment, the price of groceries, gas, water, electricity, etc.
I have been a proud Calgarian/Albertan my whole life. I have never been so motivated to move somewhere else until recently. My passion for Calgary and Alberta is dwindling. I hate saying that but when is enough enough? I still do love this city but this is just frustrating and annoying to read first thing in the morning.
I understand an increase in property taxes when the price of homes increase, NOT decrease. I'm a Realtor with Sutton Group Canwest, and KNOW the numbers, we are down, not up so why the increase?
It's funny because on one hand the city reports that prices are down an average of $25K. On the other hand they're saying our homes are worth more so pay more taxes. How the heck does that make sense?
Sorry guys, I'm not trying to be a Debbie Downer but people that care for this city as much as I do and/or people that are having cash flow issues will have the same feeling. I think everyone in Calgary should challenge their assessment. Don't let them get away with this. We hire this people to represent our city, not to rip us off. I want to hear a valid reason why the increase.
See the CBC link below for more details on the increase.
January 5 is the day over 500,000 Calgarians find out just how much the city thinks their property or business is worth, and what that means for their tax bill.
