Patient with potential contagious illness forces evacuation of ER at Calgary hospital | Globalnews.ca

CALGARY – Alberta Health Services says a patient with symptoms of a contagious disease was transferred from the Peter Lougheed Centre to the South Health Campus on Wednesday.

Health officials won’t say what kind of illness the patient might have, but the South Health Campus is one of four hospitals in Alberta designated to handle Ebola patients.

The scare caused the closure of the emergency room at the Peter Lougheed Centre; patients waiting in the ER were asked to leave and police tape was strung across an entrance.

The emergency room was later reopened, but people heading to the ER at the northeast hospital are asked to contact them to confirm which doors to use.
