The Calgary Philharmonic celebrated the Flames’ victory by changing the lyrics to Carmina Burana on CBC Music

The Calgary Philharmonic celebrated the Flames' victory by changing the lyrics to Carmina Burana on CBC Music.

It's a choice that many Canadian symphony-goers face at some point: do I go to a concert, or do I watch the game?

The crowd at the Jack Singer Concert Hall this past Saturday was rewarded for making the former choice. At the end of the evening's performance of Carmina Burana, Carl Orff's famous cantata, the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra's resident conductor, Adam Johnson, announced the Flames' 7-4 victory over the Vancouver Canucks from the podium, to a chorus of cheers from the audience.

Then, Johnson treated the audience to an actual chorus of cheers, when he directed the orchestra and choir in a new adaptation of Carmina's famous opening, "O Fortuna," with lyrics to fit the occasion.
